Pickups hauling golf course maintenance equipment from the yard on Red Dam Road to the Okatie Creek, Hidden Cypress or Argent Lakes golf courses have been mainstays on Sun City roads for years.
The equipment trailers save a lot of time transporting triplexes and other gear from course to course, but the efficiency comes with a price: The gates that keep the equipment from tumbling into the road are very, very heavy, and the technicians lifting the gates were straining their backs.
The trailers are custom built, and the gates have spring-assisted lifts on them (basically like a garage door spring), but it is a two-man job to lift and secure the gates.
