Bells, lights and boom gates will be installed at two dangerous rail crossings in Avenel and Mangalore.
Safety upgrades to the crossings on Ewings Rd, Avenel, and O’Connor’s Rd, Mangalore, were expected to be completed by the end of next year.
Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said a further 16 road crossings on the line between Seymour and Wodonga would also be completed as part of the Victorian Government’s level crossing safety campaign, which includes crossing removals and upgrades, and increased fines for illegally crossing the tracks.
‘‘These are the most high-risk crossings on the north-east line and we’re going to make them safer, sooner, ’’ Ms Symes said.
She said the $50million Safer Country Crossing Program included upgrades to 52 high-risk road crossings across the regional train network as well as the installation of automatic emergency exit gates at 25 dangerous pedestrian crossings.
