Youree Drive Middle school students welcomed with new security measures

CADDO PARISH, La. (KTBS) – Schools across the area are trying to find new ways to keep students safe.

Security measures at Youree Drive Middle School starts the moment anyone steps foot on the campus.

The school welcomed new security gates to the front of the campus, for the start of the new school year.

School leaders say it was important to control the outside access of the public.

“Our schools being an average age of 65 years old were not built with security in mind. A lot of our schools were built so kids could walk to school from a

hundred different directions and unfortunately in 65 years times have changed,” said Roy Murray, Director of Security with Caddo Parish Schools.

It all comes at a cost of $142,000 for the district.
